Regent University and WAEC Adopt GTPay

Guaranty Trust Bank (Ghana) Limited, Ghana’s “Best Bank in Product Innovation 2013” and “Technology Advance Bank 2014”, has deployed its user-friendly web-based fee collection platform for Regent University College of Science and Technology (RU) and the West African Examinations Council, Ghana (WAEC) to enable the respective institutions collect fees online from students, parents and guardians.

This development follows the successful deployment of the platform for the University of Ghana (known as UGPay) to enable online collections and payments of fees (application, admission, tuition etc) and payments for other services rendered by the University.

These deployments are timely for both UG and RU, as the institutions are currently advertising for 2015/2016 academic year admissions. The solution therefore provides an invaluable channel to prospective students, particularly the international students, as they can apply and pay for application forms online without the hassle of purchase of vouchers in banking halls.

For WAEC, the platform allows for the “online” payment for seven of the different services that are rendered by the institution – namely WAEC GH May /June Examination Registration fees, WAEC GH Nov / Dec Examination Registration fees, WAEC GH BECE (June) Registration fees and WAEC GH BECE Private Registration fees. The rest are WAEC Result Checker Card, WAEC Result Verification Topup and WAEC Result Confirmation Payment.

By implication therefore, prospective candidates (and approved schools and centres) for WAEC examinations and services can sit in the comfort of their homes to register for examinations without visiting WAEC offices, sales centres and banking halls.

While, the payment gateway deployed for the Regent University College (RU) accepts MasterCard and Visa card issued anywhere in the world, that of WAEC accepts only MasterCard.

In all cases, the process for payment is simple and straight forward. The payee begins by logging on to the institution’s website, then clicking on the gateway payment icon; say the “RU-Pay”, in the case of regent University or “WAEC//Pay” icon for WAEC, Ghana. The payee then selects the appropriate fees or service for which payment is to be made.

The payee or person paying on behalf of a student is thereafter required to follow the instructions and enter the personal details of the payee, type of payment, and other relevant information as may be required and described in the payment page. The payee would then click “submit” after which a page for payment options would open.

Upon the selection of the payment option, the payee or the person paying would be required to input his card details (card number, expiry date, PIN etc) for payment processing. Once the payment process is completed, the payee’s account is debited instantly and the respective institution’s account is credited. The platforms provide an automatic generation of payment notification to the institutions and a printable online receipt to the payee.

For parents, guardians and others who have to pay for 2015 / 2016 application fees for their wards for the University of Ghana or Regent University College, this channel provides peace of mind as such parents / guardians could make the payments from the comfort of their homes or offices anywhere and at their own convenient time.

Generally speaking, this payment solution by GTBank offers secure, efficient and cost-effective means of making payments to and collecting payments by all service providers or on-line shops. It is hence an ideal payments and recommended collections platform for hotels, schools, churches, airlines, travel agencies and online supermarkets / boutiques. Once deployed for an institution, it implies that, anyone with access to internet connectivity and MasterCard or Visa card can pay fees and other charges to that institution without having to visit the institution physically.

Commenting on the additional deployments, the Managing Director of Guaranty Trust Bank (Ghana) Limited, Mr. Lekan Sanusi expressed his gratitude to the Regent University College of Science and Technology and the West African Examinations Council for the partnership with GTBank and the opportunity availed for it to be of service to all stakeholders.

He reiterated that “Convenience, reliability, innovation and financial security have been part of the guiding principles for deploying this solution for all the institutions”.

Mr. Sanusi further stated that, “We are particularly delighted that with our already robust IT infrastructure, we are revolutionizing the way payments and collections are made in the country vis-a-vis online at the convenience of one’s home, office or anywhere with internet connectivity”.

Additionally the Bank has partnered with several other institutions in the country to offer alternative convenient payments and collections solutions for their customers. Recent among them are Databank and Wakanow.Com.

GTBank and Databank Group jointly announced a unique partnership and collaboration that would enable clients of Databank to top up their investments by paying into Databank investments funds accounts in all branches of GTBank. The collaboration further allows for the setting up of ‘Databank Corners’ in GTBank branches for the purpose of providing investment advice.

The bank has also established a relationship with Wakanow.com to enable the bank to receive payments across all branches nationwide from customers who make online bookings for flights, hotels, visa assistance, travel insurance, holiday packages, destination weddings, corporate travel etc on Wakanow’s website, ghana.wakanow.com.
