Guaranty Trust Bank (Ghana) Limited was registered in Ghana as far back as October 2004 and obtained its universal banking license from the Bank of Ghana on the 23rd of February, 2006 thereby paving the way for the commencement of operations.
The Bank is a subsidiary of Guaranty Trust Bank Plc which owns 70% of the issued share capital of the Bank with Alhaji Yusif Ibrahim, a Ghanaian business entrepreneur, holding 15% and Nederlandse Financierings-Maatschappij Ontwikkelingslanded N.V. (FMO) holding the remaining 15%.
It is capitalized to the tune of over ¢101 billion, well in excess of the minimum capital required for the operation of banks in Ghana. Apart from giving the Bank a competitive advantage in terms of business capacity, the paid up capital is a reflection of the Bank’s belief in the Ghanaian environment.
In addition, Guaranty Trust Bank (Ghana) Limited constructed its own modern, function-specific Head Office premises at the up-market Ambassadorial Area, Ridge in the business district of Accra. The Bank also recently commenced operations in its purpose-built branches at Airport Residential Area, Accra and Community One, Tema.
Over 98% of the Bank’s staff are Ghanaian, a clear indication of the Bank’s readiness to invest in the Ghanaian people and the environment in which it operates.
